You don't have to believe every thought you think.

Think Differently is an approach to understanding how our thinking shapes what we notice, how we interpret what happens to us, and the choices we make next.

It isn't about thinking positively. It's about thinking more consciously.

What does it mean to Think Differently?

Thinking differently isn't about replacing negative thoughts with positive ones.

It's about becoming more aware of how you're thinking in the first place.

We don't experience the world simply as it is. We experience it through perception, memory, assumptions, emotion, attention and the meaning we give to what happens around us.

Much of that happens automatically.

And that's where Think Differently begins: with the idea that we don't have to accept our first interpretation as the only one available to us.

When we create enough space to notice what our mind is doing, something changes. We can question an assumption. See another perspective. Separate what happened from the story we've attached to it. Choose a response rather than simply repeat a familiar one.

            Questions create awareness.
             Awareness creates choice.
             And choice creates change.

That's the heart of Think Differently.

The abilities you already have

We use these faculties all the time — often without consciously realising it.

Perception shapes what we notice and how we interpret it. Memory influences what we bring forward from the past. Will helps us direct our attention. Reason allows us to question and evaluate. Imagination lets us see beyond what already exists. And intuition can alert us to something before we can fully explain why.

Think Differently isn't about acquiring six new abilities.

It's about becoming more deliberate with the ones you already have.

What might thinking differently look like?

It might mean noticing that the story you're telling yourself about a difficult conversation isn't the only possible interpretation.

Catching yourself before an old assumption becomes a new decision.

Recognising that “I've always been like this” isn't the same thing as “I have to stay like this.”

Questioning whether the thing you're afraid might happen is actually happening — or whether your mind has simply got there first.

Or creating enough space between what happens and what you do next to choose your response rather than repeat it.

Sometimes thinking differently doesn't change the situation.

It changes what becomes possible within it.
